MADISON, N.J. (March 22, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to a tough Drew University side this afternoon on the road. The Scarlet Raiders move to 0-3 on the young season while the Rangers improve to 6-1.
"Our opponents really came out firing today and we struggled a bit to handle that." said Head Coach
Andres Bustani. "We had some competitive matches and
Brandon Davis really competed well."
In doubles action, junior
Richard Nguyen and senior
Kevin Martin put up the strongest fight in the second slot but fell 8-3 as the visitors headed into singles play trailing 3-0.
All matches were played indoors and to eight-game pro sets following the storm yesterday. A pair of Raiders lost 8-3 decisions while top singles competitor senior
Brandon Davis was doubled up, 8-4.
Bustani added, "Today's format didn't give us any time or room for error. We had to come out at the top of our game right away but we struggled to do that. Moving forward we need to really work on coming out strong right off the bat."
Rutgers-Newark begins a four-match home stand tomorrow night against Pratt at 7 p.m.
