NEWARK, N.J. (April 5, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team was defeated by visiting Mount Saint Mary College Thursday night on The Golden Dome Courts.
Rutgers-Newark drops to 1-5 on the season and will return to the courts Saturday at home against conference rival Ramapo College. Opening serve is set for 12 p.m. The Knights improve to 5-4 with the win.
Earning the Scarlet Raider point was sophomore
Alan Yu who pocketed a triumph out of the third slot. Yu outlasted Shane Terry, 6-4, 6-4 to notch his second singles win of the year.
"It was a tough day to play at night, and it was especially challenging with everyone playing up a spot in the lineups," said Head Coach
Andres Bustani. "It was great to see Alan step up and get a good win against a strong opponent at number three."
Mount Saint Mary dropped just two games in doubles, earning an 8-0 win at No. 1 and 8-1 triumphs out of the second and third flights.

Deonte Gamboa each earned wins in four games in singles play for Rutgers-Newark, with veterans
Richard Nguyen and
Kevin Martin taking three games apiece.
"Overall, we are staying in a lot matches and giving ourselves the opportunity to take control," added Bustani. "The key moving forward is learning from these experiences and starting to take advantage of the opportunities."
