Men's Soccer To Host Muhlenberg In ECAC Championship

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship game after defeating Penn St.-Behrend, 4-2. This Saturday, Rutgers-Newark will host the champion of Pod 2, Muhlenberg, at 5:00 pm in the ECAC Championship.

Rutgers University-Newark
14-4-4, 5-1-3 NJAC

The Scarlet Raiders started their 2021 campaign with a 2-3 record before going on a 12-game unbeaten streak. On the last day of conference play, the Scarlet Raiders were faced with the tough task of taking on No. 5 Montclair University with the #2 seed in the NJAC Tournament on the line. With just one minute left in the second extra time, the Scarlet Raiders scored to lock up the #2 seed. However, the Scarlet Raiders fell in the NJAC Semifinal to eventual champions, Kean University, 3-2 in penalty kicks. Since then the Scarlet Raiders have allowed just two goals in two games and have scored seven in that same span.

Kevin East already has two ECAC titles to his name (2011 & 2015) and will look to add a third when they take on Muhlenberg this Saturday. This will also be the first meeting between the Scarlet Raiders and The Mules.

Muhlenberg College
9-7-2, 2-6-1 Centennial

Muhlenberg started their season off strong, going five games without a loss while only allowing one goal. The one goal they allowed came in a 1-1 draw to the national powerhouse, Messiah. That unbeaten streak came to an end against Misericordia which then spurred three consecutive losses. The Mules defeated Moravian 3-0 this season, a team the Scarlet Raiders lost to, 3-2 in the Brick City Classic. The Mules stumbled to the finish line to end their season but capped off their regular season with a 2-1 win over Gettysburg.

To open the ECAC Tournament, The Mules defeated Alvernia 3-2 before shutting out the Scarlet Raptors.
