Daniel Quay Named to All-Tournament Team as #15 RUN Sweeps MIT

SPRINGFIELD, MA | #15 Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball returned to the win column this evening with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) sweep of MIT in the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 5-3 while MIT dropped to 5-3 on the year. 

Daniel Quay was named to the All-Tournament team and in this match tallied seven kills and four total blocks while hitting .600. Andrew Zaleck also had an efficient match with 11 kills on .579 hitting. Derek Au paced the team with 27 assists while Matt Nikishin tallied 9 digs. 

After back and forth action in the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders pulled away to go up 17-13 behind three attacking errors by the Engineers. MIT knotted the set up at 22, however, Eric Hollenbach secured a kill which was followed by a pair of attacking errors by MIT to put Rutgers-Newark up 1-0 in the match. 

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders used an early 6-1 run to push themselves into the lead. MIT was unable to string together a run to cut into their deficit as they would fall behind 2-0 in the match. 

The third set was the Scarlet Raiders' most dominant set of the match as they won 25-17. MIT took the lead early on but were unable to hang onto the lead as the Scarlet Raiders responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead which they would carry to the end of the set.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Friday, February 17 when they host Immaculata at 7:00 pm.
