Zaleck's Career-High 29 Kills Not Enough to Take Down #1 Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team battled against #1 Stevens Institute of Technology and fell 3-1 (31-29, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25). The loss sets the Scarlet Raiders back to 5-5 on the year while the Ducks improved to 15-2.

Andrew Zaleck recorded a career-high 29 kills on .258 hitting in the loss to Stevens while Daniel Quay added 12 kills. Derek Au secured 44 assists and Matt Nikishin tallied 13 digs.

After trailing 9-7, the Scarlet Raiders used a 5-1 to hop over Stevens and take a 12-10 lead. Zaleck was an integral part of that run, tallying two kills and a service ace to push Rutgers-Newark past Stevens. Zaleck continued to keep the Scarlet Raiders ahead of the Ducks with another kill. Rutgers-Newark looked to be in the driver's seat with a 19-14 lead, however, Stevens came roaring back to take a 24-22 lead. Rutgers-Newark would go on to tie it at 29 before benefiting from a pair of errors to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders fell behind 14-9 but were unable to find that same momentum from set one that helped them put them ahead in the match. Stevens evened the match in the second set after holding off a Scarlet Raiders comeback bid.

The Scarlet Raiders' offense stalled in the third set, tallying 19 points before forcing extra points in the fourth and final set of the match.
