HACKETTSTOWN, NJ | Jon Rosado hit his first career home run in an 11-7 win over Centenary on Sunday afternoon to bump the Scarlet Raiders up to 2-1 on the year. Centenary suffered their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1.
Vince Taylor (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with a pair of strikeouts while Rosado went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders sprayed 16 hits with Michael Weinbel leading the team with four hits in five plate appearances.
They Cyclones were first on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, before Rosado used a double to bring in a run. Gilroy Prial then safely reached first via an error on the shortstop which would score two runs, putting the Scarlet Raiders in the driver's seat. Centenary answered back in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at three and after two scoreless innings, took a 5-3 lead.
An explosive 4th inning by the Scarlet Raiders saw them take a two-run lead. Matthew Rypkema started the scoring with an RBI double and was followed up by a 2 RBI blast from Rosado. Robert Gonzalez capped the scoring with an RBI double to score Ryan Lebow.
The Cyclones weren't done scoring as they knotted the game up in the bottom of the 7th with a pair of runs.
In the top of the 9th, two newcomers for the Scarlet Raiders made all the difference. Weinbel hit a 2 RBI single which put Rutgers-Newark up by a pair before Prial followed up with another 2 RBI single. Taylor came in on the hill to shut down the Cyclones and he did just that with two strikeouts to secure the win for the Scarlet Raiders.
