Baseball Drops Opening Game at Russ Matt Invitational

DAVENPORT, FL | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team had its 5-game win streak snapped in their first game of the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational when they fell 12-0 to Mount Union. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 6-2 while Mount Union improves to 9-3. 

The Scarlet Raiders scattered five hits in the loss and committed three errors. Ethan Calcano hit a double in his lone plate appearance with four other Scarlet Raiders recording hits. On the bump, Marcus James (2-1) threw six innings with three strikeouts. 

Rutgers-Newark fell behind quickly as Mount Union plated six runs scattered across the opening three innings. Offensively, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to create the same firepower they unleashed in Newark, NJ. 

Errors kept rallies going for Mount Union in the later innings as they added six more to their tally to secure the 12-0 win over the Scarlet Raiders .
