Rutgers-Newark Baseball Plays Their Way Back Into the Win Column

AUBURNDALE, FL | Gilroy Prial scattered three hits as the Scarlet Raiders baseball team bounced back with a 6-2 win over Emerson. Rutgers-Newark improved to 7-2 while Emerson dropped to 3-2.

The freshman tandem of Prial and Michael Weinbel recorded five of the Scarlet Raiders' eight hits as a team and drove in one run. On the bump, Colin Thomson (2-1) sent three batters to the dugout and allowed two runs on five hits.

Rutgers-Newark and Emerson opened the game with a pair of scoreless innings before Emerson tallied the first run of the game in the top of the 3rd. The Scarlet Raiders responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame led by Robert Gonzalez and Eric Recchia RBIs. Connor Baksh kept the scoring going in the next inning with an RBI single to right field to score Weinbel who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.

Gonzalez capitalized on a fielding error to cross the dish for the second time in the game to put Rutgers-Newark ahead 4-1. Emerson tallied one run in the top of the 7th and in the next inning, the Scarlet Raiders would go on to add another two runs. Weinbel and Angelo Mascolo each brought home a run to extend Rutgers-Newark's lead out to 6-2 after Denny Furcal shutdown Emerson.

Vince Taylor came to the mound in the 9th to close out the game for the Scarlet Raiders and put them back in the win column.
