Rutgers-Newark Baseball Suffers Narrow Defeat Against Mt. St. Mary

AUBURNDALE, FL | Matthew Rypkema paced the Scarlet Raiders with two hits in the narrow loss to Mt. St. Mary this morning, 4-1. The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 7-4 on the year while Mt. St. Mary improved to 3-6. 

The Scarlet Raiders scattered three hits and scored one run while committing one error. Eric Recchia was the other Scarlet Raider to record a hit this morning as he finished the game 1-for-4. On the mound, Robert Gonzalez got the start and threw five scoreless innings with four strikeouts. 

Rutgers-Newark was first to record a marker on the scoreboard in the top of the 1st. In his first at bat of the game, Recchia doubled to left field to put himself in scoring position. With two outs, Rypkema hit an RBI single to left field to put the Scarlet Raiders in front. 

Mt. St. Mary leveled the game in the bottom of the 6th before going to score three more runs over the next to innings to secure the win down in Florida.
