Explosive 4th Inning Carries Scarlet Raiders Past Curry, 16-6

Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL | An explosive 10-run 4th inning by the Scarlet Raiders baseball program propelled them to a 16-6 win over Curry College this morning as part of the Russ Matt Invitational. The win boosted the Scarlet Raiders to 8-4 while Curry College fell to 3-7 with the loss. 

Marcus James (3-1) picked up his third win of the season after throwing five innings with 9 strikeouts and three runs. Matthew Rypkema picked up right where he left off and led the Scarlet Raiders along with Reid Duffus with two hits. Rypkema also tallied two RBIs as did Jesse Evensen and Nico Gonzalez. 

Curry College got off to a solid start, posting three first inning runs to set the Scarlet Raiders back 3-0. In the top of the 2nd, Rutgers-Newark answered back with a run of their own. Duffus hit a two-out double to set up Armando Alvarez to bring him home via an error. After a quiet 3rd inning, the flood gates opened for the Scarlet Raiders in the top of the 4th. In the top of the 4th the Scarlet Raiders scored all of their runs with two outs on the board after Rypkema hit a lead-off single. 

Gilroy Prial got the scoring party started with an RBI single to right field to score Rypkeman. Prial didn't have to wait long to cross the dish as Michael Weinbel singled to left field to bring him home. The scoring continued as the Scarlet Raiders combined hits and walks to extend their lead. 

Rutgers-Newark found success once again in the top of the 7th where they plated five more runs. Curry answered with three in the bottom of the frame, however, it wasn't enough to stop the mercy rule as the Scarlet Raiders led by 10 after 7 innings.
