Late Game Heroics by Weinbel Lifts The Scarlet Raiders Past RIT, 4-1

AUBURNDALE, FL | Michael Weinbel and the Scarlet Raiders baseball squad won their second straight this morning with a 4-1 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) as part of the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational.

The battle between the Scarlet Raiders and Tigers saw six scoreless innings as Michael Scaglione and John Arnold went punch for punch in an early pitcher's duel. RIT (5-4) struck broke the dead lock in the bottom of the 7th inning after two runners reached via walks. The eventual run was brought home by Dodig with a single to right field.

After going down in order in the top of the 8th, the Scarlet Raiders (9-4) had one last chance to tie the game up to force extra innings, and they did just that. Paul Recchia hit a one-out single to right field before Reid Duffus plated Jesse Evensen with an RBI double also to right field.

Rutgers-Newark capitalized on two errors in the top of the 10th backed by two hits to score three runs. Weinbel finished the game for the Scarlet Raiders 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs, both of which were team highs. Weinbel, with two one out, doubled to left field to score Eric Recchia and Jon Rosado before he eventually stole home.

Vince Taylor (2-2) earned the decision after coming in to close the game out and forced two fly outs paired with a strikeout to give the Scarlet Raiders a win.
