Baseball Wins 3rd Straight With 7-6 Win Over Greenville

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team won their 3rd straight to close out their trip to Florida at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational. 

A late rally in the bottom of the 9th secured the 7-6 win for Rutgers-Newark (10-4) as Greenville (6-9)  walked in six straight runs. 

Gilroy Prial finished 3-for-5 with two runs while Eric Recchia finished 2-for-4 with a run. Daniel Reardon got the start on the hill and hurled six innings of action and allowed five runs on seven hits. Matthew L'Hommedieu (2-0) earned his second win of the season after securing three straight outs for the Scarlet Raiders.

Greenville was first to record a run in the game, scoring a pair in the top of the 3rd after two scoreless innings. The Scarlet Raiders answered in the bottom of the frame, using a fielding error to plate Prial. 

Three innings later, the Panthers scored three more runs before adding another in the 7th to take a 6-1 lead with two innings to go. Rutgers-Newark went into the bottom of the 9th with a five-run deficit but the Panthers' bullpen broke down and walked in six runs to hand the Scarlet Raiders the win.
