#15 Men's Volleyball Wins 6th Straight on Senior Night Against MIT

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad picked up their 6th straight win this evening after taking down  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in four sets, 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23).

Before the match, the Scarlet Raiders honored their four seniors Matt Nikishin, Daniel Quay, Justin Tuohy and Andrew Zaleck.

Zaleck once again led the Scarlet Raiders with 27 kills, bringing him just 9 kills short of 1,000 for his career. Zaleck hit .435 on the night while adding eight digs and two blocks. Quay followed up with eight kills and a team-high six blocks. Justin Tuohy added seven kills while Derek Au led the team with 43 assists. Matt Nikishin finished with a team high 12 digs.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the match up hitting .233 as a team and held MIT to .037. Behind Au's serves, the Scarlet Raiders jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Rutgers-Newark kept the Engineers at bay until a 5-0 down the stretch brought them within three. Josh Ledesma ended the streak with a kill before an attacking error gave the Scarlet Raiders the win.

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders had their lowest hit percentage of the match (.054) which allowed the Engineers to knot the match up at one.

Rutgers-Newark bounced back in the 3rd set and had to overcome a deficit to take the win. The Scarlet Raiders trailed 22-21 before service errors gave the points to Rutgers-Newark.

Much like the first set, the Scarlet Raiders opened the set with a large run, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Zaleck put his squad one point from winning the match when MIT used a 5-0 run come within one of the Scarlet Raiders before Quay slammed home the match winning point.
