Andrew Zaleck Surpasses 1,000 Kill Mark With 3-0 Sweep of Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA | The 15th-ranked men's volleyball squad downed Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) opponents, Elizabethtown, on Friday evening, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24). With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improved 12-5, 4-1 while Elizabethtown fell to 11-12, 1-6.

Andrew Zaleck hit a red-hot .545 and led the team with 14 kills and was followed up by Justin Tuohy who finished with seven kills. Daniel Quay and Josh Ledesma each added seven kills while Derek Au was a huge part of their success, tallying 40 assists. Zaleck came into the match needing just 9 kills to cross the 1,000 kill threshold for his career. Zaleck finished the match with 14, becoming the first Scarlet Raider to accomplish that feat.

In the first set, the teams continued to match each other in terms of runs until a kill by Zaleck sparked a 5-1 run for the Scarlet Raiders which they carried to the finish line. Martin Chromulak capped a 3-0 run at the end for the Scarlet Raiders.

As a team, the Scarlet Raiders hit .333 in the second set after they battled back from an early deficit. A kill by Tuohy and an ace by Chromulak pushed the Scarlet Raiders ahead by three. Rutgers-Newark wouldn't squander the lead and would take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The final set saw Elizabethtown nearly steal a set from the Scarlet Raiders with a late 5-2 run, however, Rutgers-Newark remained stout and closed out the match.
