#15 Men's Volleyball Drops Ranked Clash Against #3 Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA | #15 Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball wrapped up its Pennsylvania trip this weekend against #3 Juniata in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) action. Rutgers-Newark fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19) to move to 12-6, 4-2 while Juniata improved to 25-2, 7-1.

Andrew Zaleck paved the way for the Scarlet Raiders with 17 kills while hitting .414. Martin Chromulak added eight kills and hit a blistering .727 as Derek Au tallied 37 assists.

A pair of kills by Chromulak put the Scarlet Raiders out in front early in the opening set. Juniata would tie the set up at six before Zaleck rifled off three straight kills to put his squad back in front. Rutgers-Newark remained in front until Juniata found its stride and went on an 8-1 run to put them in the driver's seat. From there, the Scarlet Raiders remained one point behind as Juniata held onto the lead, ultimately closing out the set on a 4-1 run.

As a team, the Scarlet Raiders hit .412 in the second set with 18 kills, however, it wasn't enough to topple Juniata. The Eagles held the lead for most of the second frame until the Scarlet Raiders briefly took the lead behind an attacking error. Much like the end of the first set, the Scarlet Raiders saw Juniata close out the set on a 4-1 run.

Down 2-0, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to stop the red-hot Eagles as they finished with a .731 hit percentage and 20 kills to remain on their 10-match win streak.

Up Next:
The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Friday, April 7 in Buena Vista, VA as they take on Southern Virginia University at 7:00 pm.
