Perfect Prial! Rutgers-Newark Takes Down FDU-Florham, 12-3

NEWARK, NJ | Gilroy Prial had a perfect day at the plate as the Scarlet Raiders continued their winning ways with a 12-3 win over FDU-Florham Tuesday afternoon at Weequahic Park. Rutgers-Newark improved to 6-1 with the win while FDU-Florham dropped to 3-3. 

Prial finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate with two walks and an RBI while Paul Recchia led the team with 4 RBIs and finished the day 2-for-4. Michael Weinbel hit a pair of triples and went 2-for-4 from the dish with three runs and an RBI. Colin Thomson (2-0) was lights out from the bump this afternoon and sat down six batters while allowing two runs on 9 hits. 

The Devils plated the first run of the game in the top of the 2nd with a thunderous home run by Jimmy Finnerty. Rutgers-Newark responded in a big way, plating five runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Jon Rosado was hit by a pitch to bring home Weinbel from 3rd which ignited the scoring spree. Throughout the inning, the Scarlet Raiders benefitted from a pair of fielding errors by the Devils to keep their inning going. 

Rutgers-Newark recorded another big inning in the bottom of the 6th where they used another scoring outburst, this time scoring four runs. Paul Recchia picked up two of his RBIs with a single through the right side, scoring both Robert Gonzalez and Prial. Following that the Scarlet Raiders added another pair in the 7th to increase their lead to 12 and hold off the Devils for their 5th straight win.
