No. 15 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, PA | The No. 15 Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad hit a blistering .493 as a team this evening in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) win over Lancaster Bible.

Andrew Zaleck continued to play at a high level and led the Scarlet Raiders with 15 kills while hitting .789. Daniel Quay and Martin Chromulak tallied eight and seven kills, respectively. Justin Tuohy returned to the lineup and added seven kills with Derek Au recording 35 assists.

The Scarlet Raiders and Chargers battled back-and-forth in the opening set culminating in a 16-16 draw. Rutgers-Newark was finally able to gain control of the set with a 4-0 run where Zaleck tallied a kill. With Rutgers-Newark now in the drivers seat, they would use a Tuohy kill to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Once again the teams traded points in the early part until a 6-1 run powered by a Quay service ace, put Rutgers-Newark up 13-8. The Chargers tried to climb their way back into the set but Chromulak and Tuohy recorded back-to-back kills to prevent Lancaster Bible from evening the match at one.

The third set saw more of the same with the squads trading points until the Scarlet Raiders went on a run to separate themselves from the Chargers. With just a three point lead, Zaleck recorded four straight kills to pull away and give his team the non-conference road sweep.
