Matt Nikishin led the team with 16 digs while Derek Au secured 32 assists. Quay was a formidable opponent at the net and tallied a team-high six block assists.

The Knights and Scarlet Raiders battled back and forth in the opening set,    and fell behind by one late in the set after an attacking error put Southern Virginia up 23-22. Quay knotted the set up at 23 with a kill before Zaleck hammered home back-to-back kills to put the Scarlet Raiders up 1-0 in the match.

Rutgers-Newark doubled up to take a 2-0 lead in the match when they rallied back midway through the second set to take a 13-11 lead via an 8-1 run. The lead would continue to swing both ways until the Scarlet Raiders used a 6-1 run fueled by attacking errors by the Knights to close out the set.

Southern Virginia found success in the following two sets to even the match at 2-2 to send the match into a deciding 5th set. In the 5th set, the Scarlet Raiders took the lead behind a service ace and never relinquished the lead after that as they would go on to take down Southern Virginia and advance to the CVC Championship match on Friday.
