Alvarez & Recchia Homer as Rutgers-Newark Falls to Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark baseball team dropped a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) games to Rowan University this afternoon, 11-10 and 12-6 in eight innings due to lightning. The losses drop the Scarlet Raiders down to 20-13-1, 4-9-1 while Rowan improved to 24-10, 10-4. 

Game 1: Rowan 11, Rutgers-Newark 10

Rutgers-Newark used 12 hits to plate 10 runs in the narrow loss to the Profs. Armando Alvarez and Jon Rosado each finished with three hits while Paul Recchia led the team with 3 RBIs. 

Michael Weinbel opened the scoring in the 3rd with an RBI double before Paul Recchia followed up with a 2 RBI single to put the Scarlet Raiders up 3-0. The Scarlet Raiders then increased their lead to 5-0 after scoring two more runs in the following inning behind a 2 RBI homer by Alvarez. Rowan recorded their first run of the game in the bottom of the 4th. 

The scoring picked up in the later innings with the Scarlet Raiders tallying five runs over three innings to increase their lead over the Profs. Rowan tied the game in the bottom of the 8th before a walk-off single in the 9th won the game for the Profs. 

Game 2: Profs 12, Rutgers-Newark 6

In the second game, the Scarlet Raiders once again jumped out to a lead behind a 3 RBI homer by Paul Recchia in the top of the 1st. Rowan responded with at least one run in the remaining innings to take the lead before lightning ended the game in the 8th inning.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Thursday, April 27 when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on New Jersey City University.
