PITMAN, NJ | Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball standout Andrew Zaleck has been named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year while Matt Nikishin was named NJAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Zaleck is the first Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball student-athlete to accomplish many feats this season including being named to four straight AVCA All-American lists. Zaleck also crossed the 1,000-kill threshold as well as setting the Rutgers-Newark school record for kills in a season with 360. In his senior campaign, Zaleck finished 3rd in the nation with 4.56 kills per set and 4th in the nation in points per set with 5.28.
Matt Nikishin posted a career-high in digs this season, recording 232, good for 2.70 digs per set. Nikishin was stout during the serve and was only beaten twice this season with 9 receiving errors good for a .979 receiving percentage.
Daniel Quay was named First Team All-NJAC while Justin Tuohy was named NJAC Honorable Mention. Quay caused havoc for opposing middles and outside hitters all season long. Overall on the year, Quay tallied a career-high 21 solo blocks and 248.5 points. Tuohy finished the season with a career-high 116 kills and 145 points.
