Women's Soccer Takes Down William Paterson, 2-1

WAYNE, NJ | Leila Ettayebi and Tamia Howell each found the back of the net in a 2-1 win over William Paterson in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Wednesday night. 

Rutgers-Newark (5-5, 1-1) controlled the game and finished with 10 (4) shots while holding William Paterson (2-3-3, 1-1) to just two all game. 

Ettayebi put the Scarlet Raiders up 1-0 just two minutes before the intermission. Carina Afonso found Ettayebi who was able to beat Sarah Mantilla for her second goal of the season. Rutgers-Newark changed halftime talks with that goal as they came out in the second half with the same offensive prowess. 

Howell scored what would turn into the game-winning goal 12 minutes into the second half. William Paterson cut their deficit in half in the 71st minute when Christina Jimenez beat Katie McLaughlin on the Pioneers' first shot of the game. The Scarlet Raiders locked up the defensive line and held William Paterson scoreless for the remainder of the game. 

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when they host Rowan University at 7:00 p.m.
