Valencia Scores in 3-1 Loss to Rowan

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer squad suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play on Saturday night.

Rutgers-Newark (5-6, 1-2) tallied seven shots while Rowan (8-0-1, 3-0) tallied 19 shots on the night. 

The Scarlet Raiders shocked the Profs, netting a goal in the first two minutes of the game. A loose ball in the box found its way to the foot of Mariana Valencia who was able to hit a low driven shot into the left side of the net. 

Rowan responded with wave after wave of attacks until they finally broke through the Scarlet Raiders' armor in the 17th minute of play. Manon Bada took a pass from Gabby Dean and curled the shot far post to knot the game up at one. The teams would head into the break tied at one before Rowan came out and needed eight minutes to find the back of the net once again. The Profs struck again shortly after to stretch their lead out to 3-1.

The Scarlet Raiders were unable to break through the Profs defense again as Rowan would hang on and remain undefeated. 

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Wednesday, October 4 when they host Albright College at 7:00 p.m.
