Cortes and Rodriguez Earn All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, MO | United Soccer Coaches has announced their All-Region teams for every region in DIII men's soccer. Rutgers-Newark's Erick Cortes and Bryan Rodriguez have both made the cut for Region IV, which includes schools from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

Erick Cortes was selected for a First Team All-Region honor. The sophomore had an outstanding season in which he bagged 13 goals and 2 assists for a total of 28 points. That was enough to more than double the goal-scoring tally of any other player on the Scarlet Raiders this season and secure second on the top scorers list in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The two-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Week scored two game-winning goals, one of which secured a victory over Ramapo to clinch a playoff berth in the last game of the regular season.

Bryan Rodriguez, a captain of the 2024 Scarlet Raiders squad, was a stalwart of the team's back line all season long and grabbed a Third Team All-Region honor. The senior led all field players in minutes with 1,647 and was integral in maintaining six clean sheets, including a stretch in early September during which Rutgers-Newark went three games straight without conceding a goal. After missing the 2023 season, Rodriguez came back better than ever, even grabbing an assist in a 2-2 draw against Kean and an NJAC Defensive Player of the Week award along the way.

Congratulations to both of these incredible players and remarkable men on their achievements. Bryan Rodriguez's contributions both on and off the pitch will be nearly impossible to replace once he departs, and Erick Cortes has a very bright future ahead of him as a Scarlet Raider!
