Rosado & Weinbel Go Yard as Rutgers-Newark Baseball Defeats Pitt-Greensburg, 7-3

DAVENPORT, FL | The Rutgers-Newark baseball team continues to roll on as they defeated Pitt-Greensburg this morning as part of the Russ Matt Invitational, 7-3.

Rutgers-Newark (7-3) picked up its 5th straight win behind a 12-hit performance that included a pair of home runs, bringing their tally to eight on the year, two more than all of last year. Jon Rosado and Michael Weinbel each tallied the first homers of the season as they finished 2-for-4 on the day. Connor Baksh (2-0) tossed 7 innings with two strikeouts and five earned runs. Pitt-Greensburg (1-7) tallied two errors in the loss with 9 hits and scored three runs.

The Scarlet Raiders quickly jumped in the lead, tallying three runs in the top of the 1st inning. Matthew Storch got the scoring started via an error that scored Paul Recchia. Robert Gonzalez used a sacrifice fly to score Eric Recchia before Daniel Fedorco hit an RBI single to close out the inning. Storch then tallied another RBI in the 2nd with an RBI double that scored Paul Recchia

Weinbel added another tally in the top of the 3rd with a solo homer which led to Rosado hitting a solo homer in the very next inning.

Greensburg would eventually open its scoring ledger in the bottom of the 6th with one run before adding a pair in the 7th. The Scarlet Raiders pitching staff would go on to shut out their opponents over the final two innings to keep its win streak alive.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Wednesday, March 13 when they take on Anderson University.
