Gonzalez Joins 100-Hit Club in 9-8 Comeback Win Against Anderson

DAVENPORT, FL | Robert Gonzalez joined the 100-hit club as the Scarlet Raiders baseball team used a 9th-inning rally to take down Anderson, 9-8, and extend its win streak to six in a row.

Rutgers-Newark (8-3) scored 9 runs on 9 hits and played clean baseball in the field. Daniel Fedorco's bat remained hot as he finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs while Eric Recchia and Matthew Storch added two hits each. On the mound, Saul Carmenini (1-0) closed the game out and held Anderson without a hit in the final two innings. Anderson (9-5) scored eight runs on 11 hits and committed three errors. Wolf paced the team, going 2-for-4 with three runs and 2 RBIs.

After four innings of play, Anderson held a 3-0 lead after tallying a run in three straight innings. The Scarlet Raiders briefly took a 4-3 lead after Ethan Calcano was walked to bring home the first run of a four-run inning. Anderson, however, matched the Scarlet Raiders with four runs to quickly reverse the momentum and put it back in their favor.

Anderson carried its 8-4 lead into the top of the 9th, where the Scarlet Raiders would go on to explode for five runs. Jon Rosado and Paul Recchia got hit by a pitch to start the inning which was followed by an Eric Recchia single up the middle to load the bases. Storch brought in two runs with a double into right field to bring Rutgers-Newark within two. Fedorco tied the game at eight with a 2 RBI single up the middle setting the stage for Joseph Bernardo to bring home what would be the game-winning run.

The Scarlet Raiders close out its Florida trip tomorrow against Keystone College.
