Rutgers-Newark's Baseball Win Streak Snapped by Keystone, 4-0

DAVENPORT, FL | Rutgers-Newark's baseball team had its six-game win streak come to a close this morning against Keystone College in the final game of the Russ Matt Invitational, 4-0. 

Rutgers-Newark (8-4) was held to five hits and tallied one error in the field. Robert Gonzalez and Joseph Bernardo secured two hits each with Matthew Storch adding the other one. On the bump, Vince Taylor (0-3) tossed seven innings tallied two strikeouts, and allowed four earned runs on 9 hits. Keystone (5-4) scored four runs on 11 hits and committed three errors as a team. Boyle led the team with three hits and an RBI while Holt (2-1) picked up eight strikeouts. 

A pitching duel lasted five innings as both teams were held scoreless until Keystone broke that trend in the top of the 6th. In the top of the 6th Keystone used a double and a single to put its first two tallies on the board. That momentum would carry over to the 7th where they would double their lead.

The Scarlet Raiders return to their home diamond on Saturday when they host St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 11:00 am for a non-conference doubleheader.
