Baseball Splits Twinbill Against Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, PA | The Rutgers-Newark baseball squad split against Franklin & Marshall this afternoon which snapped its five-game win streak.

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 15, Franklin & Marshall 1

Rutgers-Newark (13-4) scattered 13 hits and scored 15 runs behind a pair of homers by Eric Recchia (2-for-6, 1 RBI) and Michael Weinbel (1-for-4, 1 RBI). On the bump, Vince Taylor (1-3) picked up his first win of the season behind 6.2 innings and six strikeouts. F&M (6-11) was held to five hits and tallied four errors in the field.

Recchia posted the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the 1st, to put him in the 100-hit club, which was then followed up by another tally in the top of the 2nd to double the Scarlet Raiders' lead. Rutgers-Newark would double up again in the 3rd via a two-run error.

Weinbel tattooed his third four-bagger of the year in the 5th to increase their lead to 5-0. An explosive 10-run inning in the 6th put Rutgers-Newark up 15-0, a lead they would carry to the end of the game.

Rutgers-Newark (13-5) offense cooled off in game two and was held to just one hit and one run. F&M (7-11) found its offense in game two and tallied 12 runs behind 15 hits led by 3 RBIs from Butera.
