Rutgers-Newark Baseball Slides by St. Elizabeth, 5-2

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers-Newark slid by Saint Elizabeth University on Tuesday afternoon, 5-2, at Weequahic Park as part of non-conference action. 

Rutgers-Newark (14-5) was held to three hits but scored five runs. It was the top of the lineup that tallied the hits for the Scarlet Raiders, Paul Recchia (1-for-3), Eric Recchia (1-for-2), and Connor Baksh (1-for-3, 2 RBI). Matthew King (4-0) pitched two innings with a strikeout to pick up his 4th win of the year. St. Elizabeth (3-10) scattered six hits and tallied two runs with an error.

St. Elizabeth took an early lead, plating a run in the 1st and 2nd inning. Rutgers-Newark found its first run in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring a run via a fielder's choice by Matthew Storch to tally his first of three RBIs.

The Scarlet Raiders jumped in the lead in the 5th when they plated three runs behind a 2 RBI single by Baksh. Storch added a security run in the 7th with a sacrifice fly followed by George Xanthos (S, 3) who tallied three strikeouts to keep the Eagles off of the board.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Wednesday against CCNY.
