NEWARK, NJ | Three homers powered the Scarlet Raiders baseball team past the Beavers of the City College of New York on Wednesday afternoon, 11-6.

On the bump, John Farrington (1-0) hurled 4.2 innings and struck out one batter en route to his first win of the season. CCNY (3-13) used 10 hits to plate six runs against the Scarlet Raiders led by Kevin Budzinsky (4-for-4).

Recchia once again got the scoring started for the Scarlet Raiders in the bottom of the first with a 2 RBI homer over the left field wall. Rutgers-Newark broke through for three more runs in the second on homers by Michael Weinbel (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Jon Rosado (1-for-4, 1 RBI). The Scarlet Raiders would cap the inning when Recchia sliced an RBI double to center field to give them a 5-0 lead.

CCNY found its first tallies of the game in the top of the third, capitalizing on a pair of errors to cut the lead down to 5-3. Weinbel kept the scoring machine rolling along with an RBI double in the bottom half of the third before the Scarlet Raiders blew the game open in the fourth with another trio of runs. Matthew Storch (2-for-5, 1 RBI), Robert Gonzalez (2-for-4, 1 RBI), and Joseph Bernardo (2-for-3, 2 RBI) all found gaps to bring home runs in their multi-hit outing.

Rutgers-Newark scored two more runs in the fifth and sixth to push its lead to 11-4 before CCNY found two more runs in the eighth to inch closer to the Scarlet Raiders. Justin Kahn closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts on eight pitches to secure the win for the Scarlet Raiders.
