Men's Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to #19 Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA | The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-21), in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) action against #19 Marymount on Friday evening.

Rutgers-Newark (12-9, 1-2) hit .108 as a team and tallied 27 kills. Martin Chromulak paced the Scarlet Raiders with 11 kills while Derek Au dished out 23 assists. Marymount (17-5, 2-0) tallied a red-hot .429 hit percentage led by Will Wright's 9 kills.

In the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders held a 7-4 lead before Marymount clawed its way back into the set and used a 10-2 run to leapfrog the Scarlet Raiders en route to a 1-0 lead in the match.

Marymount carried that momentum over to the second set where they took a 17-10 lead. The Scarlet Raiders made a rally attempt behind a 3-1 run but had the door slammed as Marymount closed out the set with a 7-1 run.

In the third, the Scarlet Raiders battled with Marymount until the end, however, Marymount would quickly end the comeback attempt to complete the conference sweep.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when they take on Eastern Mennonite.
