Men's Volleyball Stumbles Against Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, VA | The Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team dropped a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) match to Eastern Mennonite, 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-20). 

Rutgers-Newark (12-10, 1-3) tallied 28 kills led by Martin Chromulak's eight. Aidan Apito added seven kills while Derek Au paced the team with 25 assists. Eastern Mennonite (15-11, 4-2) hit .241 as a team and was led by Ben Childers eight kills while hitting .583. 

Eastern Mennonite started the match with four straight points to set the tone for the remainder of the set. EMU extended its lead further via a 5-1 run that pushed its lead out to 17-9. Aleks Kolodziej tried to kick start the Scarlet Raiders offense late in the set with a kill, however, Eastern Mennonite closed the door to go up 1-0. 

In set two, the Scarlet Raiders fell behind before using a 5-0 run, highlighted by kills from Apito and Kolodziej, to cut the lead down to two. Eastern Mennonite used a late surge to secure the second win of the match.

Rutgers-Newark used a powerful 5-0 opening in set three, however, Eastern Mennonite tied it up at 11 with a 4-0 run. A 6-1 run by Eastern Mennonite extended the gap between the two teams to allow them to secure the conference sweep.
