At the plate, Eric Recchia once again paced the team, finishing 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs. William Paterson (8-23, 3-9) scored 11 runs on 11 hits behind a 3-for-3 day by Tom Radigan. On the hill, Ian Metzger (2-5) got the start and pitched six innings before giving way to Nick Durso who struck out eight batters in three innings to pick up the save.
The Pioneers used a 2 RBI single to tally two runs to start the game from Mehnert before blowing the game open in the second with eight runs. Six walks aided the Pioneers' explosive inning that set the Scarlet Raiders back 10-0 through two innings.
Michael Weinbel (2-for-4) got the fifth inning started for Rutgers-Newark with a single to left field which eventually set up E. Recchia to bring him home with an RBI single to center field. Robert Gonzalez (0-for-3, 1 RBI) then followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score Devin Rojas (1-for-2) to tally two runs for the Scarlet Raiders. Rutgers-Newark carried the momentum over to the sixth inning where they found another run to cut the lead down to 11-3.
Down by eight, the Scarlet Raiders offense went quiet over the last three innings as they were unable to get runners on to get a rally going.
