Baseball Loses to Ramapo, 5-3

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders' baseball team dropped the second leg of a two-game series to Ramapo this afternoon at Weequahic Park, 5-3, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.

Rutgers-Newark (15-9, 0-4) was held to three runs and scattered seven hits while committing a pair of errors. Eric Recchia (3-for-5, 1 RBI) was the lone Scarlet Raider to have a multi-hit day while Chase Ostrowski (2-1) pitched 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and four earned runs. Ramapo (13-8, 3-1) was led by John Higgins (3-for-4, 3 RBIs) who just missed out on the cycle.

Connor Baksh got the scoring started in the top of the 1st, as the Scarlet Raiders served as the away team this afternoon, via a sacrifice fly. Ramapo quickly responded in the bottom of the frame behind a Higgins RBI single. The Roadrunners added a pair to their tally in the next frame with a two-run homer by Klawans to put Ramapo up 3-1.

Both teams would go dormant for three innings until Ramapo plated another run in the 6th thanks to a solo homer from Higgins. Rutgers-Newark cut the lead down to two when E. Recchia hit an RBI double followed by Dario Morales walking in a run. The Scarlet Raiders would leave the pillows loaded to end the inning and were unable to find the final two runs to extend the game.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday, April 6 when they take on The College of NJ at 11:30 am.
