Baksh Has Career Day Against TCNJ

EWING, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark baseball team fell to No. 21 The College of New Jersey this afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Saturday.

Game 1: TCNJ 12, Rutgers-Newark 6

Rutgers-Newark (15-10, 0-5) scattered 15 hits and scored 6 runs with two errors. Connor Baksh was electric in game one, going 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs at the dish while also helping his cause on the hill, tossing a five-inning gem in which he only allowed three earned runs with three strikeouts. Eric Recchia (3-for-5), Paul Recchia (2-for-4), Matthew Storch (2-for-5), and Reid Duffus (2-for-2) all secured a multi-hit outing. TCNJ (15-4, 3-1) tallied 17 hits and plated 12 runs behind Marcario's perfect outing as he went 5-for-5 with 7 RBIs.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Lions found its first run of the game when Marcario hit an infield RBI. Baksh got the Scarlet Raiders on the scoreboard when he found a gap in center field to bring home P. Recchia who doubled to start the inning. TCNJ slipped in front briefly before Rutgers-Newark scored three runs in the top of the 6th behind a pair of doubles from Baksh and Robert Gonzalez.

Rutgers-Newark, however, quickly saw its lead disappear as TCNJ answered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Lions' bats then exploded for six runs in the 8th to prevent any Rutgers-Newark rally.

Game 2: TCNJ 15, Rutgers-Newark 9

Rutgers-Newark (15-11, 0-6) tallied 12 hits but committed three errors in the field. Robert Gonzalez (3-for-4), Joseph Bernardo (2-for-3), and Dario Morales (2-for-2) all had multi-hit games for the Scarlet Raiders. TCNJ (16-4, 4-1) was led by O'Donnell who finished 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs.

The Lions exploded early, carrying their momentum over from game one, and tallied seven runs in the first two innings. Baksh's red-hot day continued when he responded with a three-run homer before Michael Weinbel hit an RBI double down the left-field line. The Scarlet Raiders plated more runs in the 6th and 7th when they capitalized on an error by the Lions.

TCNJ responded with six runs to prevent the Scarlet Raiders from handing them a loss.
