Stevens Tops Rutgers-Newark in Convincing 15-2 Victory

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark baseball team struggled to get things going on Sunday afternoon, falling 15-2 to Stevens in a decisive match-up. Despite a valiant effort, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to contain the high-powered Ducks offense, which racked up 15 runs over eight innings.

Stevens (1-2) got off to a fast start, scoring in four of the first five frames. The Ducks scattered seven runs across the opening five innings, steadily building a commanding lead. Meanwhile, Rutgers-Newark found themselves unable to break through against Stevens' pitching staff until the fourth inning. In that frame, the Scarlet Raiders were able to plate both of their runs, as Eric Recchia scored on a wild pitch and Daniel Fedorco scored on a Dario Morales RBI single to shortstop, but it wasn't enough to mount a serious comeback.

Rutgers-Newark's pitching staff struggled to contain the Ducks in the later innings. After the initial five-run burst, Stevens added five more runs in the seventh inning and capped the scoring with three additional runs in the eighth. The high offensive output left the Scarlet Raiders with little room to respond.

Joey Santi (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Rutgers-Newark, pitching three innings. The right-hander allowed six hits, five earned runs, and struck out four in his outing. Despite some early signs of promise, Santi was unable to escape trouble as the Ducks' offense proved relentless.

The Scarlet Raiders (1-2) will look to bounce back in their next contest, hoping to regroup after a tough defeat.
