Raider Men's Volleyball Falls in Three at Juniata

ELIZABETH TOWN, Pa. - The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team fell on the road to Juniata College on Sunday afternoon, 3-0.

Juniata College 3, Rutgers-Newark 0 (16-25, 22-25, 16-25)
The first set saw a tie at 4-4 when Juniata had an attack error. That would be the last time the Scarlet Raiders would get close as Juniata capitalized on attack and service errors. Mix that with a few kills and the home team created a gap that was too big to close as Juniata College hit .375 in the first set.

In the second set, kills by Michael Suarez and Aleks Kolodziej assisted in the Scarlet Raiders starting the set with a 3-1 edge. As the score flipped a few times, as time passed, a Juniata attack error leading to a Kolodziej block made it a 13-13 tie. It was a close set the whole time and Rutgers-Newark was up 22-21 late in the rally. Unfortunately, two Scarlet Raider attack errors paired with two Juniata kills ended the set in favor of the home team.

The third and final set saw the Scarlet Raiders begin 2-0 and saw a tie of 3-3. From there, Juniata took control of the set and the match, as Rutgers-Newark had its worst hitting percentage of the day. Hitting .316 in the third set, it aided in the Eagles sweeping the Scarlet Raiders and capturing the home victory. They were able to hold Rutgers-Newark to -.053 in the final set to keep the Scarlet Raiders at bay.

Michael Suarez had nine kills for Rutgers-Newark, while Derek Au had three kills, 20 assists, and seven digs. Rutgers-Newark was held to a hitting percentage .063 for the match.

Juniata registered double-digit kills in each set to aid in its victory today as they hit .307 as a team. Tyler Goldsborough had 11 kills and five digs to lead the Eagles.
