SB vs Ramapo

Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Outpaced by the Roadrunners

MAHWAH, NJ | In their second NJAC doubleheader in as many days, the Scarlet Raiders (11-19) came up empty playing away from home against a surging Ramapo (23-4) squad, dropping their conference record to 1-11.

Game 1: Ramapo 12, Rutgers-Newark 0

The Roadrunners established their lead in the very first inning when Katie Rygiel led off the bottom half with a solo home run. Then, in the second, Rygiel clubbed an RBI double that increased their advantage to two.

The third inning is when Ramapo broke the game wide open. 13 batters came to the plate in the frame, scoring eight runs on eight hits. Five different players registered an RBI in the rally, including Rygiel who added three more to her tally with another two-base hit.

On the other side of things, Marissa DiPaolo was dominating the Scarlet Raiders' lineup. She cruised through five innings, allowing only two hits in her complete game shutout.

Ramapo tacked on two more runs in the fourth, and with the score standing at 12-0 after the top of the fifth, the game ended due to the run-ahead rule.

Game 2: Ramapo 5, Rutgers-Newark 2

The second game was a much different story from the first. Charly Peter started in the pitching circle for Rutgers-Newark, and she delivered two scoreless innings to begin the game.

However, she ran into some trouble in the third. Kylie Rygiel was at it again, plating the first of two runs. In the very next inning, a pair of RBI singles doubled their lead, making it a 4-0 game at the end of the fourth.

After scoring one more in the fifth, the Roadrunners carried a comfortable five run lead into the final innings of the game. The Scarlet Raider bats managed to put up nine hits, including three from Keelin O'Brien, but it only amounted to a couple of runs in the seventh.

Though it was much more closely contested than the prior competition, the end result was the same: a victory for Ramapo.
