Rutgers-Newark Falls to Rowan

NEWARK, NJ | Nationally ranked Rowan (35-1), who came into the matchup with only one loss on the season, made no mistake against the Scarlet Raiders (11-23), who could not keep up in either game of the Friday doubleheader.

Game 1: Rowan 13, Rutgers-Newark 0

The Profs wasted no time. In the top of the first inning, they put up a four run rally including an RBI double hit by Kate Evick.

Then, in the second, a triple and three RBI singles doubled the visitors' tally, making it 8-0. And they didn't stop there. Another five in the third widened the gap even further to 13.

Meanwhile, star pitcher Rylee Lutz was locked in for Rowan. Her replacement, Madison Cooley, was just as dominant. They only allowed two hits in five combined innings.

After the bottom of the fifth, the score remained at 13-0, causing the game to end due to the run-ahead rule.

Game 2: Rowan 16, Rutgers-Newark 0

Once again, Rowan got things started early when Liz McCaffery reached home on a fielding error. The Scarlet Raiders threatened in the bottom half, putting runners on second and third with only one out. However, Profs pitcher Rylee Lutz got out of the jam scot-free.

In the second, first baseman Holly Markus clubbed a two-run shot over the left field wall to make it 3-0.

Once again, the visiting pitching was firing on all cylinders. BethAnne Doderer came in for relief and did not allow a single run. She was followed by Makayla Veneziale, who found equal success in her outing.

A six hit rally powered a six run fourth inning for the Profs, breaking the game open. Seven more in the fifth made it a 16-0 game.

The Scarlet Raiders just could not overcome the opposition's pitching, and the game ended after the fifth inning.
