The baseball field is a field of diamonds. When you're situated behind the plate, you get an up close and personal feel and view of the whole field. So much relies on you…the good kind of pressure.

Well, for senior Jon Rosado, it's a welcome feeling. He enjoys being a team player. It started with him going from being an only child to welcoming two younger brothers as he took on the role of big brother. He's been playing baseball since the age of five and is an avid Yankees fan. From there, he made his way to Newark and gained a band of brothers in red and black. For the Elizabeth, New Jersey native, putting on a baseball uniform is like second nature. It puts him in game mode and that's where he feels comfortable.

You have to be an interesting person to want to have a baseball flying your way at over 80 miles per hour. "I like being the centerpiece of the game, the way I control the game. It just makes everything so fun to me," said Rosado.

In 18 appearances this season, Rosado has recorded 16 hits, scored nine runs, and drove in nine batters. He has been a steady piece in the Scarlet Raider offense, as his senior season is winding down.

In just a few weeks, Rosado will exchange his catcher's gear for a commencement cap and gown. In front of his family and friends, he will walk across the stage having completed a degree in Leadership and Management. "Walking across the stage is going to mean a lot to my family and me," Rosado reflected, as he'll be the first in his family to graduate from college. With future aspirations of working for Amazon, his dedication and unwavering commitment to baseball will be transferred to the work field.

His hard work and commitment come from the two people who brought him into this world, his parents, Christina and Jesus. "My motivation is my parents helping me strive to become the person they believe I can become," Rosado said.

When asked about how baseball has helped him grow as a person, Rosado expressed that, "the discipline and time management skills required to balance academics with sports have pushed me to be more organized and focused. I've learned how to deal with setbacks, handle pressure, and work as part of a team, which has improved my communication skills and leadership abilities. The camaraderie with my teammates has also taught me the importance of supporting others and working toward a common goal. It's not just about becoming a better player, but also a more resilient and collaborative person."

It will be moments like going to a Yankees game with his teammates that Rosado will miss once he departs Rutgers-Newark, those same memories will be the ones that last a lifetime and make for great stories down the road.

Rosado chose Rutgers-Newark because "it offered me a great combination of academics and athletics. The campus environment felt welcoming, and the baseball program had a strong sense of community and competitiveness that matched my goals."

He will take those thoughts, add them to the countless life experiences that studying and playing baseball at Rutgers-Newark has brought him, and prepare himself for what's next. There's no doubt that Rosado will be just as resilient on the next stop of his journey, just as he was in college.
