GREENSBORO, NC - The Rutgers–Newark baseball program has once again proven its commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as on the field, earning the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, for the 2024-25 academic year. The honor, recognizes programs that maintain a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the academic year. This year, more than 440 college programs and 300 high school programs nationwide were recognized for their outstanding academic success.
That team-wide accomplishment was mirrored by individual recognition across the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers–Newark landed 64 student-athletes on the NJAC All-Academic Team, with baseball standouts Eric and Paul Recchia leading the way. Eric, who batted .295 with five home runs and 24 RBIs, was named First Team All-Academic, while Paul, who added a .282 average and five homers of his own, secured Second Team All-Academic honors. In addition, 12 other Scarlet Raider baseball players earned honorable mention, further underscoring the depth of the program's academic success.
The Recchia brothers' impact extended beyond the diamond and into Rutgers–Newark's annual athletic banquet. Both were honored as Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year for baseball, highlighting their ability to excel in competition while maintaining strong academic records.
