Newark, NJ – Rutgers-Newark women's soccer turned in its most dominant performance of the season on Saturday, overwhelming St. Joseph's University Brooklyn in an 11-0 victory at Frederick Douglass Field. Seven different Scarlet Raiders found the back of the net. The Scarlet Raiders controlled the match from the outset, scoring six times in the first half before adding five more in the second to put the game out of reach.
Mariana Valencia set the tone just 98 seconds into play, finishing a pass from Samantha Vieira for the opening goal. Valencia continued to spearhead the attack, recording a hat trick in the games first 20 minutes. Vielka Fernandez and Eliza Haghighi also contributed to the scoring in the opening half, while Janelle Atta converted from the penalty spot to give the Scarlet Raiders a commanding cushion heading into halftime.
The Scarlet Raiders didn't let up after the break, as Viviana Valencia got on the board with a goal in the opening minutes of the half. Kimberly Vera struck twice and Ashley Solarte and Skylar Prince each added tallies to cap off the scoring. Rutgers-Newark's offense was relentless, outshooting the Bears 34-0 with 26 shots on target while also winning the corner battle 7-0.
Defensively, the Raiders were unshakable. Goalkeepers Shaina Sackett and Alisha Perez did not see much action today with St. Joseph's not registering a shot attempt on the night.
