ARDMORE, Pa. – The Rutgers University–Newark men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Seamus McElligot Invitational on Saturday, turning in solid performances across the track and in the field.
MEN'S
The Scarlet Raiders saw strong efforts in the sprint events, led by Ralph Atorkui in the 400 meters, recording a sixth-place finish after crossing the line in 55.15 seconds. Atorkui also placed 11th in the 60 meter with a time of 7.31 seconds. Shreek Prophet followed closely behind, finishing 13th in 7.34 seconds. Freshman Babacar Halsey represented Rutgers–Newark in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 15th with a time of 9.54 seconds.
In the field events, Julian Tummings delivered a podium performance in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters to place third overall. Abdul-Mujeeb Abdullah finished 15th in the long jump with a mark of 5.10 meters, while Azor Chareyre added a seventh-place finish in the shot put.
WOMEN'S
On the women's side, Suhaylah Muhammed turned in a strong showing in the long jump, placing fifth with a leap of 4.32 meters. Muhammed also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing 19th with a time of 9.62 seconds.
In the throwing events, Christine Pierre-Louis earned a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 10.55 meters, while Cherron Hackshaw recorded a 12th-place mark of 7.06 meters.
The Scarlet Raiders will be back in action in two weeks at the Frank Colden Invitational in Collegeville, PA.
