Scarlet Raiders Roll Past Widener in Straight Sets

CHESTER, Pa. – The Rutgers–Newark Scarlet Raiders delivered a dominant 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-15, 25-18) over Widener University, controlling the match from start to finish behind a balanced attack.

Rutgers–Newark overpowered Widener in total points, 52-26.5, while posting an impressive .313 team hitting percentage. The Scarlet Raiders dictated play at the net and from the service line, never allowing the Pride to establish consistent rhythm throughout the contest.

In the opening set, Rutgers–Newark set the tone with aggressive serving and sharp offensive execution, creating early separation before cruising to a 25-12 win. The second set followed a similar script, as the Raiders maintained steady pressure and claimed a 25-15 victory to take full control of the match. Widener showed more resistance in the third, but Rutgers–Newark remained composed late to close things out, 25-18.

Michael Suarez led the charge with eight kills, five digs, and five aces, consistently putting Widener on its heels from the service line. Alex Solodky followed with seven kills while hitting an efficient .417 clip and Duncan Sturt orchestrated the attack with 22 assists and added four digs.

The Scarlet Raiders will look to carry this momentum into this weekends tri-match at SUNY New Paltz where they will face off with the Hawks and SUNY Poly.
