Galloway, NJ — The Rutgers-Newark baseball team used a late-game surge to pull away from Stockton, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to secure a 6-4 NJAC victory on Thursday afternoon.
Rutgers-Newark struck first in the third inning, plating two runs to take an early lead. Stockton answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own, evening the score at 2-2.
After a scoreless fourth, the Ospreys pushed ahead in the fifth, scoring twice to take a 4-2 advantage. The Scarlet Raiders were held in check through the middle innings before breaking through in a decisive eighth inning.
Rutgers-Newark rallied for four runs in the frame, capitalizing on timely hitting and key opportunities to reclaim a 6-4 lead. The pitching staff then shut the door over the final two innings to preserve the win.
The Scarlet Raiders finished with 10 hits on the day, while Stockton totaled nine. Rutgers-Newark pitching limited further damage down the stretch, allowing just four runs despite early pressure.
