John Jay then came up with back-to-back steals on Raider possessions – the first resulting in a fastbreak layup by junior forward Vaughn Mason with 24 seconds left and the second setting up the game-tying 3-point jumper with 17 seconds remaining by junior guard Gary Brady.

Rutgers-Newark call timeout with 13 seconds left to set up the final shot in regulation, but junior guard Tim Smith (Mullica Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) missed a jumper with three seconds left and John Jay's Daniel Desir cleared the rebound.

In overtime, senior guard Miguel Garcia broke the ice with a layup before Mascall and Mason connected on jumpers to give the Bloodhounds (2-5) a six-point lead that swelled to as many as nine.

A commanding 47-34 edge in rebounding for the Raiders was off set by an icy 33.8% shooting percentage and 26 turnovers.
