Raiders Fall To Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ – Freshman shortstop Tina Aita tallied her second home run in as many days in the second game of a twinbill with #20 (NFCA) Ramapo but the Scarlet Raiders fell to the Roadrunners, 9-1 and 13-5 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader at Alumni Field.

Aita finished two-for-six on the afternoon with three RBIs and a run scored, while freshman Kat Renteria went one-for-two with a double and a run scored. Sophomore centerfielder Jessica Zelaya collected three hits on the day with a run scored and an RBI.

Game One
After two scoreless innings the Roadrunners opened up scoring in the first game of the twinbill on a Scarlet Raider error in the top half of the third.

The Scarlet Raiders would respond in the bottom half of the frame when junior Amber Affholter drove home fellow junior Jackie Guas – who reached on a throwing error by Ramapo sophomore hurler Deanna Giordano – with a two-out infield single to second base.

Ramapo would recapture the lead with a three run fifth inning capped off by freshman Danielle Rothenberger's two RBI single up the middle that scored sophomore Rachel Wong and junior Katie Donnelly, before tacking on five runs in the top half of the seventh, sealing the victory.

Giordano did not allow an earned run while striking out nine en route to her eleventh win of the season, while Rothenberger led the Roadrunners offensively going two-for-four with two RBIs and a run scored. Donnelly finished two-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore catcher Stephanie Malgeri went one for three with two RBIs.

Game Two
Ramapo got things started early in the nightcap, scoring 12 runs in the first inning off 10 hits before tacking on a run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by junior Jamie Chalkley that scored fellow junior Jen Vitorino.

Aita finished the game two-for-three with three RBIs to lead the Scarlet Raider attack, plating sophomore Courtney Breauxsaus with a two-out RBI single through the left side in the top half of the third, before blasting a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore Lyndsay Buehler earned her eighth win of the season allowing four runs on four hits while striking out seven in four innings of work, while freshman shortstop Tiffany Fischer paced the explosive Roadrunner attack going two-for-two with two RBIs and a run scored. Donnelly finished one-for-three with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Malgeri and senior Marilee Farmer each went one for one with an RBI and a run scored.
