Scarlet Raiders Battle Breast Cancer In Season Finale Against Kean

Rutgers-Newark Softball

Junior catcher/outfielder Sam Weer
UNION, NJ – The Scarlet Raiders teamed up with New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Kean prior to their regular season finale with the Cougars, helping to raise over $3,000 for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

With both squads wearing "Bat for the Battle" t-shirts, pink visors, and pink wristbands during warm-ups, the teams hoped to raise beast cancer awareness, while raising money to benefit the fund begun in honor of North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who passed away earlier this year after a 20-year bout with the disease.

Rutgers-Newark junior Sam Weer and freshman outfielder Courtney Breauxsaus hit safely in each game, but Kean rolled to a 10-0 and 11-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep on Cougar Field.
