NEW YORK – Sophomore middle infielders
Patrick Reitemeyer and
Matt Connors fueled a 19-hit assault as Rutgers-Newark rolled to a 21-6 win over Staten Island at the CSI Baseball Complex.

Sophomore shortstop Reitemeyer went four-for-four with a sacrifice fly and five RBIs. Sophomore second baseman Connors went three for four, walked three times, scored three times, drove in a pair of runs and swiped four bases to push his team-leading total to 19 steals in just 22 attempts.
Junior third baseman
Joe Furnaguera belted his 10th home run of the season – a three-run shot in the five-run fifth inning – while finishing two for four with a pair of runs. Furnaguera caught classmate
Anthony Yeswita for the team lead in homers.
Rookie leftfielder
Chris Ballester went three for six with an RBI triple in the three-run second inning, a two-run single in the four-run seventh and an RBI single in the eight-run ninth inning.
Senior designated hitter
Matt Halligan had RBI singles in the third and seventh innings to finish two for four. Yeswita was also two for four, and senior catcher
Gerard Russomanno delivered a two-run single in the ninth.
Rutgers-Newark freshman pitcher
Connor Medler hurled seven complete inning to move to 2-0 on the season. He yielded just four runs on six hits while striking out three and walking five before giving way to classmate
Nick Evans in the eighth. After posting a 1-2-3 eighth, Evans gave up two runs on two hits and a hit batter before getting the final out.
The 21 runs were the most scored in a game by Rutgers-Newark this season while the 19 hits tied the second highest output for the team.
