Scarlet Raiders Level Record With Win Over York

NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark swept doubles play and took the top four singles flights on its way to a 7-2 win over York (NY) College on The Golden Dome Courts.

The Scarlet Raiders (5-5) are hoping to reschedule weather postponed matches against Brooklyn College and Lehman College to have a shot at a winning record while the Cardinals slipped to 6-7. 

Freshman top-flight singles player Bushra Memon and sophomore No. 2 performer Ashley Lawrence rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins to highlight the day. Rookies Michelle Kvitnitsky and Agnes Bangayan dropped just three games between them on the third and fourth flights, respectively. 

Memon improved to 9-3 overall in singles and 8-2 in dual match play while Lawrence upped her dual match ledger to 6-4 and her overall performance for the season to 7-5. 

Kvitnitsky and Bangayan each leveled their singles record for the season at 5-5 for the young Scarlet Raiders. 

Memon and Bangayan ran their doubles record to 7-3 with an 8-3 victory over Nicole Jones and Irma Ruilova on the No. 1 court – winning their sixth straight double match. 

Kvitnitsky and Lawrence rolled to an 8-2 victory on the No. 2 court, improving their season record to 6-3 while winning their third straight decision. 

Senior Sara Ferreira and freshman Dhaneya Kumar notched an 8-4 win over Anna Ko and Tenzin Kunchok to level their season's partnership at 2-2 on the third flight.
