Cerruti (1-2) struck out a career-high 13 while allowing just six hits and a walk while Champagne (2-1) posted a dozen strikeout while yielding just four hits and no walks in a game that lasted just one hour and 45 minutes.
A 2-out triple into the right centerfield gap by freshman centerfielder Michael Eckman plated Scranton freshman shortstop Tim LeCompte in the second to make it 2-0 and push across what proved to be the winning run.
A first-inning solo home run by Royal senior first baseman Chris Bligh and a fifth-inning solo shot to left by Scarlet Raider sophomore
Chris Ballester accounted for the other runs. Ballester was the only Raider with more than one hit. A third-inning single by junior centerfielder
Michael DiCenso was Rutgers-Newark's other hit.
